Today is Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. Today is my favorite day because of what it represents: freedom, equality, civil rights, and peaceful, non-violent protest. It is also a day of celebration. Today we celebrate the life of a man who devoted his life to social justice and basic human rights for all people.
It is a day of remembrance. It is a day of service.
On this day, it’s important to treat your fellow man with respect and remember to hug the ones you love. Volunteer somewhere, pick up some trash in your neighborhood, or shovel a driveway. My favorite thing to do on this day is to go somewhere where I can hear Dr. King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech from the Lincoln Memorial, even if it’s over the speakers of my laptop. This speech moves me. It uplifts my spirit. It reminds me that we are all connected no matter our skin color, our religion, or our country.
When I hear this speech, on this special day, I have hope in humanity.
Thank you Dr. King.
